Sopa Azteca @ El Huequito

El Huequito started as a taco stand in 1959 and gained recognition for their unique take on tacos al pastor (highly recommended).  Now they've grown into a small chain of restaurants and stands around town.  We go to the one near our house on Bolivar and always order the same thing...

Sopa Azteca- It's a mild tomato broth with crispy tortillas, chunks of cheese, dried chile pasilla, avocado, and a side of crema.  It's the best one we've tried.

Nopal Salad- This cactus paddle salad is special and a good gateway for those who might be unfamiliar with nopal.  They prepare it so that it's not slimy and dress it generously with oregano.

We always get a few tacos al pastor (of course) AND a side of tortilla chips to enjoy the six different home-made salsas in the center of the table.
